With the cost of heating oil well over $4/ gal I decided to purchase a Harman pellet stove, which will be delivered in about 2 weeks and want to built a standard 48" x 48" hearth raised about 3-6". My plan is to frame it out with 2x4's and then put plywood on top of the 2x4's but what do i do about laying the tile.Obviouslyy, it won't stick it the plywood. I plan on buying some ceramic tiles at Home Depot or somewhere. Please tell me what you think I should do or if u have an entire new plan, let me know! THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!

I scanned instructions and it said where the 7" vent pipe goes through wall, a 9"x10" box like square should surround the pipe in framing. Is this necessary? This would require opening entire wall to add framing and was thinking just cut a circle in sheetrock, continue out through siding where the vent terminal attaches. Thought this could be done easy by myself before hiring a pro to install the gas line. Buy stove, hearth pad, position the stove, cut the hole. Is there a easy solution, and what tool is the cleanest for this operation?

I have a wood stove that is in my basement. I am making a hearth pad for it to bring it up to code. My chimney flue pipe that goes through a wall about 3 inches into concrete which goes into my chimney outside. My question is the sheetrock around the pipe is 2" away. If this is double wall pipe will that be sufficient? So there is nothing around the pipe at all up to 2 inches. I can see clearly it goes into concrete. If you are a contractor, home inspector, building inspector, DIY home repair person, etc. please state that when answering my question. Thank you in advance. Well considering it was already like this when I moved in and my home inspecter said to just put it up on a hearth. Then you would assume it was ok. But just your opinion is 2" alittle to close for comfort?

We bought the foam pads and corners for babyproofing a fireplace hearth. It came with some adhesive, but the 8-month-old pulled that off in 2 days. I went and bought a roll of super-duty double-sided tape at a hardware store and that lasted a week. I used Loctite PowerGrab, but that didn't adhere because the brick is painted and Powergrab has to have at least 1 porous surface. I try to keep him away from it, but it still needs the pads in case his 2 yr old sister pushes him into it. I'm looking at using a product called Sumo Glue. http://www.sumoglue.com Anyone have experience with this product? Any other suggestions? I am about ready to just tear the hearth down and put tile on the floor. Thanks for your help.

I have to install a hearth pad for the EPA wood fireplace I'm installing. Can I simply lay tile or marble as the hearth or are there other requirements to make it noncombustible?

I'm installing a wood buner in my home and I have all panelling what is the best to use for the walls around the burner itself, please explian in detail i purchsed a hearth pad but is there anyhting i can purchase to put on the walls... please give me options websites or details please i live in west virginia and i have contacted about building codes so please don't give me that answer i asked for options on what to use not about building codes

We have a fireplace with gas logs. It has the doors (glass and screen) that we keep closed when not in use. The hearth is brick and stone. It is only about 2-3 inches tall and probably 6 feet long. Do I need to babyproof it (pads) or just let it go and watch her when she is in the living room in the floor. She is recently crawling and right now I am just telling her "hot" and "sharp" when she goes near there and redirecting her. I am pretty sure she would never be alone in there. If I were to babyproof it how would I go about it? The fire is covered-she can't get into there. As I said, there are screen and glass doors over the fireplace. I am pretty much referring to the hearth. Stephanie-What did you use to cover the hearth? I hadn't thought about getting locks-but I will now.

I have two toddlers--18 months old and nearly 3 years old--and we just moved to a new place that has a stone fireplace with a hearth that's raised about 4 - 6 inches. They are both fascinated with it, and won't stay away from it. My husband zip-banded the screen together so they won't climb in it (lol) but we can't keep them off the hearth. They both run over to it at 90 mph and step up on it and walk the length of it. A) it's very dirty and needs to be cleaned (apt. complex is going to do that later this week) and B) more importantly, I'm afraid one of them is going to run and trip and take a header into the corner of the stone. Does any company make some type of fire place padding or corner padding for this type of situation?
